Vestibular Physiotherapy

Vestibular Physiotherapy

Vestibular physiotherapy is a specialized form of physiotherapy that focuses on treating disorders of the inner ear and balance systems. These disorders can include vertigo, dizziness, and imbalance, which can greatly impact daily activities and quality of life.

A normal session of vestibular physiotherapy will involve a detailed interview where we will ask questions around your symptoms, when they started, how long they last for, and other factors that influence them. Then our Physiotherapists will perform a detailed assessment using specialised equipment such as vision denied goggles to identify the cause of your symptoms and design a rehabilitation program to help you reduce your symptoms.

Through a combination of exercises, techniques and manual therapy, vestibular physiotherapy aims to reduce symptoms, improve balance and coordination and help patients regain their independence. Exercises may include specific movements to retrain the brain to process balance and spatial information, as well as strengthening and coordination exercises to improve overall function. Other therapies may include manual therapy to improve mobility and flexibility of the neck and other related structures.

Vestibular physiotherapy can aid in the assessment and treatment of:
  • Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo
  • 3rd Window syndrome
  • Peripheral hypofunction  From a neuronitis or labyrinthitis
  • Meniere's Disease
  • Vestibular Migraines and 3PD
  • Visual and motion sensitivity induced  vertigo
If you are experiencing symptoms of a vestibular disorder, it is important to consult a physiotherapist with specialized training in this area for an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. With the right therapy, you can improve your quality of life and return to their daily activities with confidence.
